Creating paragraph, character, list, outline, and header and footer styles help you create visually pleasing documents, whether you publish them digitally or in hard copy. Go directly to the pros for learning best practices in creating Microsoft Word styles.

Even though it's all made up of words, each element of your publication will have a different style. For years I’ve used Microsoft Word styles to format documents for both myself and clients. Styled documents are easier to scan and read quickly.

When a client asked me to create a style template for her book, I thought I’d brush up on the best practices for creating styles. I learned more about Microsoft–its quirkiness and how to work around it–during this project than any other.
